Where All My Passions Intersect

If you asked me what I wanted to be when I was younger, my answer probably changed every few weeks. Actress, Singer, Filmmaker, Fashion designer, CEO, you name it, I love anything that lets me create, perform, or communicate something bigger than myself–whether directing student films, singing with my a cappella group, performing in a musical, or designing campaigns for class projects. I grew up on stages and sets, and I've never liked being limited to just one label, because I’ve always believed it is creativity that connects everything.

When I got to Boston University (even though it took over a year for me to settle on a major), I realized there was actually a career path encompassing creativity, communication, and leadership: Public Relations.

PR is the perfect fit for people who thrive on variety and on personal connection. It combines everything I love (storytelling, design, branding, and human behavior) into one field. It’s the space where creativity meets strategy and where every idea can have the power to influence how people think and feel.

Whether I’m helping plan a campaign for a student organization, making a social media post for BU PRSSA, managing social media for a nonprofit, or brainstorming content for a fashion brand, I’m always chasing the same goal: to make people feel something valuable. PR gives that creative direction; it transforms passion into purpose.

Every class, internship, and campus organization I’ve joined has shown me a different face of what PR can be. With PRSSA, where I worked on the networking team for PR Advanced’s Annual Conference, I learned that relationship building and outreach are crucial for successful communication. Through PR Unleashed, I helped organize team bonding events and client planning, and I saw how collaboration drives creativity.

What I love most about PR is that it doesn’t force me to choose between my passions; it allows me to nurture all of them at the same time! It’s both creative and analytical. I can work in-house at an agency, for an individual brand, or even manage publicity for artists, athletes, or entertainment companies. PR is about understanding people, telling stories, and bringing ideas to life in a way that leaves a mark, an impression.

If you’re the type of person who wakes up every day with a new interest or ambition, or someone who wants to do a little bit of everything and still make it all mean something, then PR might just be the thing for you.
